Getting Started

Here are a few tips to use before you start your Elvish jewelry.

  1. First, it may be beneficial to search around for jewelry designs; besides the links provided, the actual props from the movies have great elements you can incorporate into your own idea.
  2. Once you have an idea, it is helpful to draw it out on paper. Try making it life size for later on in the process. If you are using more than one type of metal, use thin markers or pens of differing colors to indicate each metal type in your design. Ex blue for silver and yellow for gold…
  3. Make sure your idea is not impossible to do at your current skill level. It’s a good to set your goals high, but not so that you end up disappointed. I’ve done this and it only cause frustration, but don’t be afraid to try you can always shift you designs to fit you abilities as you make it.
  4. Be sure to have all the materials when you start, so you are not running around trying to find them or having to stop and start at odd intervals. It is easier to work in one sitting while you are in the ‘art zone,’ if you are an artist you know what I mean, although short breaks are your friend!
  5. Now you are ready to start creating so proceed to a tutorial of you choice! For beginners I recommend Wire working for beginners.
